All September 2019 through September 29, 2019: Women and Dogs in Art in the 20th Century

According to museumofthedog.org, this exhibition at the AKC Museum of the Dog showcases the work of several prolific and influential female dog artists. Check out over 80 works by the preeminent dog portraitist Maud Earl plus nearly 40 works on paper by the renowned etcher Marguerite Kirmse. There are other noted women artists in this exhibition, including Lillian Cheviot, Diana Thorne and Lucy Dawson. Sculpture is represented by artists Kay Finch and Laura Gardin Fraser, who was the first woman to design a coin for the U.S. Treasury. Museum visitors will also see works in the permanent collection by contemporary artists following in the footsteps of these groundbreaking women. Go to museumofthedog.org for more information.

September 6, 2019: Paddle & Sup with Your Pup

Benebone, a leading brand of high-quality USA-made dog chews, is hosting a free kayak and stand-up paddle board event for dogs and their humans at Manhattan Kayak in New York City. Enjoy an afternoon on the water and a Yappy Hour in the evening with Benebone team members for a tail waggin’ good time! The event goes from 3:00 pm to 8:30 pm with light fare and drinks starting at 5:00 pm. A professional dog photographer will be taking taking photos of dogs and there will be a Benebone swag bag for all attendees. Register at Eventbrite for assigned timeslots. Each attendee must have their own ticket for the kayak/SUP. (Kayaks and SUPs will be available on a first come, first serve basis.) Updates will be provided on benebone.com/events.

September 7, 2019: Bipawtisan March

We the Dogs D.C. hosts its 3rd annual Bipawtisan March in Washington D.C. with a glow theme at the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

We the Dogs D.C. hosts its 3rd annual Bipawtisan March in Washington D.C. with a glow theme at the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

The 501 ©3 organization We the Dogs D.C. hosts its 3rd annual Bipawtisan March in Washington D.C.  This year will have glow theme and take place in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Event starts at 6:00 PM with a Rally at Yards Park. Following the march, a “Yappy” Hour will be held at 7:00 PM at Dacha Navy Yard. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy food, beer and wine, pose with their pooches in a photobooth and win raffle prizes donated by local businesses. The Yappy Hour will conclude at 10:00 PM. Registration is $30 per person and up to two dogs (includes one t-shirt + glow swag).  Free registration is also available. As part of the Bipawtisan March, we will be hosting our traditional Yappy Hour raffle fundraiser. This year, we’ve decided to host the raffle online to allow as many people to participate as possible. 100% of the donations raised from the raffle fundraiser will be donated to the four animal rescue organizations selected by the event participants.  You do not need to attend or be present at the Bipawtisan March to enter and/or win a raffle prize.  Ticket sales will begin on September 3, 2019 at 4:00 PM, and will end on September 7, 2019 at 8:59 PM. September 7 — September 8, 2019: Doggie Dash and Splash

Go to the dogs with Morey’s Piers and Water Parks with its two fun canine events in Wildwood, New Jersey. A doggie dash race will be held in the morning followed by a puppy pool party throughout the day. Doggie Dash participants get complimentary admission to the puppy pool party. Registration takes place from 9:00AM to 9:45AM, on the Beach adjacent to Raging Waters Water Park (back of Mariner’s Pier, 3501 Boardwalk, Wildwood, NJ 08260). The race begins at 10AM and you must bring the following: your printed e-ticket, a completed release form and up-to-date proof of rabies vaccination. September 7 through September 10, 2019: Pet Loss Education

Two Hearts Pet Loss Center and CAETA (Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy) International team together for a joint educational session in Boston, MA. The CAETA course will cover a variety of topics, to include Caregiver and Pet Considerations, Physiology and Pharmacology, Pre-euthanasia Sedation/Anesthesia Protocols, Euthanasia Techniques, and discussions of case studies and challenging situations that veterinarians might face. In the advanced studies for CAETA, actual work on animal cadavers is done for practical application and practice of the techniques discussed. The Two Hearts Pet Loss & Grief Companioning Certification course will cover a variety of topics, to include Understanding Pet Loss Companioning, Pet Hospice and Understanding Anticipatory Grief, The Six Central Needs of Mourning for a Pet Lover, The Importance of Rituals, The Benefits of a Pet Loss Support Group, Children and Grief: Pets and Grief, Compassion Fatigue and Self-Care. The fast-paced, learning-filled few days ends with a moving tribute to honor the pets of the attendees. This course is approved for 15 hours of RACE accredited continuing education credits for veterinary professionals.
