The 2021 winner of Nationwide\u2019s Hambone Award for the most unusual pet insurance claim was Bruin, a 3-year-old German Shepherd Dog from Stevenson Ranch, California, who has completely recovered after surviving a 400- foot fall off a steep cliff into a canyon and four days lost in the wilderness while seriously injured.<\/p>\n

Bruin was eventually found and treated for a broken femur, collapsed lung, internal bleeding and a shattered leg that required surgery.<\/p>\n

Bruin\u2019s family will receive prizes from Nationwide, and the hospital that treated him, ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital \u2014 Los Angeles, will receive a $10,000 Nationwide-funded award through the Veterinary Care Foundation.<\/p>\n
